Michael Kirk Douglas is an American actor and producer, primarily in movies and television. Douglas's first television exposure was that of Karl Malden's young college-educated partner, Insp. Steve Keller, in the 1970s crime drama, The Streets of San Francisco, a role he played from 1972 to 1976. Douglas is an Emmy Award-, Golden Globe Award- and two-time Academy Award-winner, first as producer of 1975's Best Picture, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Best Actor in 1987 for his role in Wall Street.
After a relatively long apprenticeship involving flop movies (RUNNING and HAIL, HERO) and a hit TV series ("Streets of San Francisco"), Michael Douglas came into his own in the 1980's, becoming a bona fide movie superstar. Michael's defining role was in WALL STREET, for which he won the Academy Award. Notable films include: ROMANCING THE STONE, FATAL ATTRACTION, TRAFFIC,and BASIC INSTINCT.
The fact that Michael Douglas built a huge career out of playing frequently unlikable characters has made his career all the more remarkable.
Michael's father Kirk Douglas was a major movie superstar for many decades. Michael Douglas is now married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones.
His newest films include: KING OF CALIFORNIA, and YOU, ME AND DUPREE.
