Discovered: Adopted at age 7 by his grandparents, Jamie started training in classical piano. He also performed in the church choir.
In high school, he played quarterback for his high school team. He attended Juilliard where he studied classical piano.
Perhaps his greater calling was comedy, which he found when a girlfriend convinced to get onstage at a comedy club. He used that comedic skill in the series "In Living Color" in 1990.
Although known for his comedy, Jamie's most notable performances have been in dramatic roles. His superb performance in Ray, playing Ray Charles won him a Best Actor Oscar. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Collateral. He has also taken several more dramatic roles including the recently released film, Jarhead.
Jamie has also not left behind his musical roots, recently he had a #1 chart hit "Gold digger" by Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx.
