For a golfer there is no greater pleasure than to spend time planning a luxury vacation, especially when it includes your top sport Golf. Living in Scotland I have the pleasure of playing some of the finest courses in the world, however Scottish weather can be slightly inclement and there is nothing I like better than planning a golfing holiday to a different country where you are guaranteed good weather, sunshine and heat. In this article I will review one of the fantastic places I have visited to play golf - Palm Springs.
My passion for golfing abroad came about as one of my friends and his wife spent a lot of time in the USA and he invited my wife and I over to join them for two weeks in Palm Springs for the ladies to enjoy the October sun and for him and I to enjoy some great golf.
Palm Springs is one of my favourite destinations and I cannot wait to return there. Fantastic climate, fantastic golf, superb and in some ways quite unique shopping and the ability to take a cable car up into the mountains to escape the heat.
We built the itinerary ourselves selecting a palm springs luxury vacation home at a ridiculous price. When I say ridiculous I mean it. Normal pricing per night at that time of year was $400, we managed to get the property for $55 per night, how I love America and negotiations.
We played a number of courses in Palm Springs and to be honest some excellent championship course as well as not so good resort courses. My golf was not great but when you have the sun shining and good company it really does not matter. One of the great services that the main courses offered was the ability to order a beer and some food as you were playing the course, come off the course, enter the clubhouse and there is your cold beer and your food sitting ready for you. In addition, on arrival at the courses they take your clubs from you, put them onto your buggy, at the end of the round they take your clubs from the buggy, clean them and then put them in your car. To be honest this is the finest service I have ever seen and I am not only talking about golf, service wherever we went was exceptional.
Would I recommend Palm Springs for a golfing vacation? Oh yes, an emphatic yes. Plus you are only about 2 hours from Los Angeles so you can always drive into LA and do the tourist thing, Universal Studios, Disney and of course Beverley Hills.
It is difficult to recommend courses (there are so many) but the courses at Indian Wells are worth a visit, the other location to play at is Rancho Mirage, beautiful hotel complex and 27 holes of cracking golf.
