Avril Lavigne biography

Name: Avril Ramona Lavigne

Born: Born on September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario.

Nationality: Canadian

Eyes: Blue/Green's

Hair: Light Brown

Discovered: Avril grew up in Napanee, Ontario singing country music and in a church choir, she also taught herself guitar. She was discovered singing country songs at a Kingston, Ontario Chapters bookstore by her first professional manager. It wasn't long until the sixteen year-old Avril was signed by Arista Records and moved to New York City to work on her first album.

Resume: Attempts to co-write songs in New York failed, leading Avril to move to Los Angeles where she co-wrote her album with Clif Magness and songwriting team The Matrix. Her first album, Let Go, was released in June 2002 to rave reviews and instant success. The album produced four hit singles: "Complicated", "Sk8er Boi", "I'm With You", and "Losing Grip", each topping the Canadian, U.S. (including the Billboard Hot 100) and worldwide charts.

Avril was named "Best New Artist" at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards and at the 2003 Juno Awards, where she led all musicians with six nominations, winning four Junos.

Turning to Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, Avril wrote her second album Under My Skin, also featuring one track, "Nobody's Home", with Ben Moody, formerly of Evanescence. The album quickly rose to number one around the world and produced more chart-topping singles such as "Don't Tell Me", "My Happy Ending", "Nobody's Home" and "He Wasn't", which became her eighth number-one release since "Complicated".

Avril's second album led to more awards including a World Music Award in 2004 for favorite pop/rock artist, and three Juno Awards.

Romance: Currently engaged to Deryck Whibley from Sum 41. The two have bought a house together in Beverly Hills.

Know for: Her "skater punk" persona.

Rumors: New reports claim that Avril and her fiance, Deryck, will be moving to Toronto, Canada, in order to remain closer to each other.

Quotes: "I might look like a tough chick - and I am - but I'm also a hopeless romantic inside." - Avril Lavigne

"My mom wouldn't let me sing 'Strawberry Wine' because it had 'wine' in it." - Avril Lavigne

"When I was 2 my mom said she knew I was going to be a singer. I've been performing ever since I was a young kid. So I've known I wanted to do this for awhile. I always knew in my heart that I'd be singing." - Avril Lavigne
