    Ana Ivanovic biography

Ana Ivanovic was born November 6, 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro.

She started tennis at the age of five after seeing the sport on TV. She asked her parents to take her to the local tennis school and she was given a small racket as a birthday present from her father shortly after. /p>

    Story continues below

She first caught the eye of the tennis world when she reached the final of the junior Wimbledon tournament in 2004, losing to Kateryna Bondarenko. In 2004 she also went 26-0 on the challenger circuit, and won all 4 events that she entered, two of them as a challenger.

She began 2004 season by winning first Tour singles title at Canberra as a qualifier, defeating lucky loser Czink in championship match; defeated qualifier Nemeckova, qualifier Dominikovic, No.4 seed Bartoli and Fedak en route to final; also met Czink in final round of qualifying in Canberra, winning 63 61; first time in Tour history a qualifier and a lucky loser have met in a singles final; jumps into Top 100 for first time on January 17, 2005 at No.82; made Grand Slam debut at Australian Open, defeating No.32 seed Benesova in 1r and Kirilenko in 2r before falling to No.2 seed Mauresmo in next round.

Ana plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. She has a strong forehand and serves well (at least because of her height of 6' or 1.83m).
